I was out in the Lake Tahoe CA area for a Ragnar Trail relay race last week/weekend and was lucky enough to get some time to explore. After barely getting any sleep during the relay race (that largely takes place overnight) I was able to wake up early the next morning to track down a beautiful Lake Tahoe sunrise.

I scouted out the lake (and learned how to play Bocce Ball) the night before so I knew where the sun would rise. I took close to 200 pics focusing on a mix of objects/landscapes for composition to add to the sunrise including a pier, a log, and anchored boats.
I had this little beach to catch the colors before the sun started to crest, but once the sun started peeking out from behind the mountains, a couple started walking to the end of the piers to have a romantic morning. And I was lucky enough to capture it.
This is easily my favorite picture from the trip. If you’re interested in purchasing this as a print, click the image and it’ll take you directly to my print shop!
Once the sun settled in, I ventured away from the beach to capture random sun-kissed moments including this pebble and the surfboard fins. These shots made it well worth bringing my large-bodied DSLR instead of just using my camera phone for the trip.
Looking forward to the next time I’m out that way to catch another Lake Tahoe sunrise. They’re amazing!!! All these images are available for purchase via my online shop here.
